Remake Food for Good

Remake Food for Good is located at 2-4 East High Street, Crieff, PH7 3AF - we are open Mon-Sat 10am-4pm (closed for lunch 1-1.30pm). Our telephone number is 01764 460071.

It’s with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to discontinue our Food for Good project.

There is currently a big SALE at our shop and we will be serving our lovely customers until the end of April to make sure you can get your refills until stock lasts.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly; since 2022 we have tried to make this a financially viable project, first in our Reuse Hub and then on Crieff High Street. The reality is that food retail shops work on narrow profit margins and aren't eligible for funding. So, we have invested Remake's own funds into this project as we truly believe in the environmental and social benefits it brings for our community. However, the project continues to make significant financial losses which are not sustainable for us as a charity to sustain.

All that said, we have been genuinely blown away by the level of support our community has shown the project since we announced the closure. Hearing and reading all your kind messages lately has meant the world! Please feel free to share ideas of what you would like to see us trying next on the high street for the remainder of our lease.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to promote waste free living in our own community through this project. We would like to thank our many regular customers, volunteers, suppliers and our landlady for their great support - it's been a beautiful project for our team to be a part of.

The good news is that there are great alternatives locally that offer sustainable and refill products: J.L Gill's, Farmton Honesty Hut, Comrie Croft, Studio 52, Comrie Deli & Weigh Ahead among others who will welcome you with a great selection of goodies and refills!

A Greener Strathearn: Sustainable Food, Eco-Friendly Products, and Community Engagement

Remake Food for Good is dedicated to revolutionising how our community interacts with food and household products through a series of impactful initiatives:

  1. Simplify Sustainable Shopping: We’re committed to making it easier for you to choose food and household products that are kinder to the planet.
  2. Bulk and Refill Services: Our enhanced bulk and refill service will make it more affordable and accessible for everyone to say goodbye to single-use plastics.
  3. Support Local and Plastic-Free: We’ll champion products that are free from plastic and showcase local food producers, ensuring your purchases have a positive impact on both the environment and community.
  4. Educational Talks and Workshops: Our range of talks and workshops will promote local producers and offer hands-on learning experiences, from waste reduction, food preserving and other green initiatives.
  5. Climate Café Meetings and Events: Join our regular Climate Café gatherings, where you can engage in knowledge-sharing sessions and hear from guest speakers about climate-friendly practices, sustainability, and innovative solutions.
  6. Community Food Events: We’ll introduce a vibrant calendar of community networking events centred around surplus sharing of fresh fruit, vegetables & herbs, a Pay It Forward scheme, celebrating local produce and fostering a stronger, more connected community.
  7. Volunteering and Employment: We believe in the power of community involvement. Through volunteering and training opportunities, we’ll empower individuals to contribute to our mission while gaining valuable skills. Additionally, we’ll create job opportunities that support both our goals and our local economy.

Join us in making a difference—let’s work together to create a more sustainable, connected, and environmentally friendly community!

How it Works

1

Choose a Container

Please bring along your own clean containers for refilling – anything you keep food in at home. (And we get it, sometimes we forget to bring a container so we have jars for free that are cleaned and made sterile through our dishwasher). We also have paper bags to buy.

Weigh the Container

Our team of staff and volunteers will weigh your containers on our scales, then zero the scales so that you are only paying for the contents of your container.

3

Fill the Container

Staff and volunteers will fill your container with your requests. We use clean scoops, funnels and spoons for every refill so you know that everything is safe and hygienic.

Pay for Refill Contents

Supporting Local: Refill and Plastic-Free Shopping Partners in Our Community

Community is a core value within Remake and as such we are mindful to compliment other refill services in the local area, rather than compete with them. The following businesses offer either refill options or plastic free shopping.

J L Gill's Meal Store, Crieff

We offer loose and refill stock including flour, dried fruit, muesli, nuts, herbs, spices, coffee, oat flakes, oatmeal, rapeseed oil. Refill cleaning products such as laundry liquid, washing up liquid & fabric conditioner plus personal care products such as handwash, shampoo, conditioner & body wash.

We are currently transitioning our pre-bagged food items into 3 litre glass jars. This will mean food items such as lentils, beans, rice & pulses will also be available for refill.

Studio 52, Drummond Street, Comrie

We provide a selection of Faith in Nature body wash and hand wash refills, Ocean Saver drop refills and a wide selection of plant based cleaning cloths and sponges which are completely plastic free and compostable.

We source beautifully made and ecologically conscious gifts, books and homewares from independent makers and small companies and with particular thought going into how each item will be disposed of at the end of its life cycle.
